I have a MacBook Pro 15' 233 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. At work, I am able to hook up an Apple 24' display up to it without any problem. Here at home, I hooked up a new Acer X233 monitor first using the DVI, and then the VGA connectors, and the monitor doesn't display anything. When I go into my Display Prefs, it recognizes the monitor and allows me to change the resolutions. As I click through the different settings, the Acer monitor displays the MCP's screen (I have it set to mirror my MBP monitor) for a couple seconds, then it goes dark. Anyone have an idea? Does the monitor say 'No signal' and the power button light goes amber? What MacBook Pro model is that? The new one with a mini displayport? I've had a similar problem with my MacBook Pro (mid-2009, hence with mini displayport) when I bought my Acer X233H, and the problem was, I think, due to the fact I was using a non-Apple mini displayport to DVI adapter. I had the same problem with a non-Apple mini displayport to HDMI adapter.
Finally when I tried with the Apple original mini displayport to DVI adapter, it worked perfectly. And I'm very happy with the monitor.
