Pioneer has noted a with its DVD-R optical drive mechanisms. These mechanisms are used by a number of computer and peripheral manufacturers, including Apple. Pioneer explained that certain drive mechanisms would require a firmware upgrade in order to avoid potential damage when used with new high-speed recordable 4x DVD-R and 2x DVD-RW discs. Among those devices affected are the DVR-A03, DVR-103, DVR-A04 and DVR-104 computer drive mechanisms, along with 'certain OEM computer systems containing Pioneer-manufactured DVD-R/RW drives.'
